Swollen Ad-Cleaner!

Published by Advena at 2:02 am under Uncategorized

Forgive me if I don’t post in a while because my hand is swollen and this is why. (This also took me bloody ages to write!);

We have 2 kittens living under the building, one white, one black. Japan has no RSPCA (Royal Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) or the like so these kittens are wild and living under the building. We don’t have wild cats like this in England so this was a bit weird for me. From time to time I see girls from my building feeding them because these cats to have to fend for themselves and presumebly all the girls in my building think they’re cute…Or so I thought.

For some reason there is a gap which they can fit though to come inside the building and have done so a few times to see if they can get some food because people feed them. From time to time they come in the building and start meowing their way up the staircase if no one is around. Since they’re cats theylike to do this at around 2am.

I heard them on my floor (English 1st F, Japanese/American 2ndF) a few days ago and thought I better coach them out gently by shooing them so they dont disturb everyone. I was in the process of getting it to move when I could hear my phone ringing in my room and went to get it. I didn’t know the number so I didn’t pick up (Another story!)

I was gone for about a minute but when I came back there was another girl on the staircase. Our staircase is half outside, since it has a ceiling but there are area where the staicase is exposed because of gaps in the walls (due to the way it was built). At first I thought this girl was doing the same as me but I soon realised what she was to do was very…very different.

First she grabbed the poor little kitten by the neck and put her hand under its belly so it couldn’t scratch her.

Ok. I thought. not my plan but she’s going to carry it outside instead

Nope.

She proceeds to go up to one of the huge holes in the wall.

I wondered what she was doing so I stop myself from walking back into my room. It was then that I realised she was dangling the kitten over the hole in the wall and decided to drop it from the 1st floor.

I hear a thud as it hits the concrete.

I didn’t quite believe what she’d just done so I run up to the hole and look down at the kitten lying in a puddle on the concrete sectioun around our building.

Shit!…HOLY SHIT!…She just threw the kitten out of the building! I look at her Goddamit advena say something to this girl to let her know that treating kittens like that is illegal! (I think, …It is in England anyway) …Say something!!!

I just couldn’t utter a word, I was totally speechless as to what to say to this horrible horrible person. I know it’s a wild cat but you just don’t do that!

I couldn’y say anything to her, I just couldnt utter a word, I let her walk back up to her floor.

I ran down to see the kitten infront of the building stumbling to where it usually sleeps. It looked at me and I saw its swollen eye. That Bitch. The kitten was covered in some muddy water and was wailing in pain. My heart broke at this and I didn’t know what to do. I knew I couldn’t take it inside because it might have fleas or something, so i decided to bring down a sharron fruit for it and the other kitten.

Reluctantly it started to eat, limping toward the fruit as I backed away.

The towel!

There’s a towel in the foyer of the ground floor which had been left by a previous student and it looked clean enough so I went and got it and started to rub the kitten dry since it was quite a cold night. It started to purr and fell asleep. I was careful not to touch the kitten too much since  i dont  know where it’s been  (apart from thrown out of a building!) but I noticed two bite marks from presumably fleas on my arm
and another on my other hand. Fleas die on humans so I washed my hands and went to bed, not worried.

The next day however the bites were SO BIG that the two on my left arm made a bottleneckshape leading up to my wrist and the one on my other hand has made the back of my hand swell up so much that I can’t make a proper fist. It looks absolutely disgusting and it’s really irritating since it’s really itchy!

I went to the hospital today though to get it seen to and they’ve given me some cream for it so hopefully it should clear up. Though at the hospital i realised that my name is spelt wrong in katakana on my insurance card. For example what is on my card as a “te” should be a “ra” and what is a “shi” should be a “ji”.

Bascially if my name was really Advena, by the time the reg office were done with it and made mistakes like this it would sound more like “Ad Cleana-”

Trouble is though I didn’t know this until I was at the hospital and I realised that my name’s pronounciation by Japanese  people was worse than usual. I went up and told them the real pronounciation and they showed me hiw it was spelled on my card. I didn’t even notice! So now i have to get it changed which is a pain because the office is diffiult to get to!

So the hospital made me a plastic card with the wrong spelling. I did tell them, “look, the english spelling with the katakana doesnt match, they’re not even the same sounds” so they say

“We’re very sorry but now we made this card we cant change it, we can only go by what’s written on your insurance card”

“But the correct spelling is there, it’s just in English!”

“We’re very sorry but it’s different you must get it changed and then come back and get this card changed”

I didn’t argue with them since the it was late and I was tired. Plus they were tyring their best to accomodate a scared gaijin who’s hand was as round and as red as a boxing glove. The doctor was very nice to me as well and didn’t treat me like an idiot even though I’m gaijin. Though I did look up the word for antihistamine before we went so I would look like I knew what I was talking about and maybe get some respect that way.

*sigh* Sorry guys! I wont go helping stray cats anymore I guess!

    No good deed goes un-punished….
Too bad that your kindness resulted in pain.
Here in th US getting you name corrected would be a huge hassle-I cannot imagine how huge a problem it would be in a foreign land with such a complex language. And for a gaijin to boot!
